Men’s Tennis Hosts Mercer For Final Home Match of the Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will host The Southern Conference (SoCon) rival Mercer Bears for its last home match at UNCG Tennis Courts of the 2026 season at 12:00 p.m. Seniors, Tymofiy KhrystyukJohn GabelicDevon Moskowitz and Andrew Black, will be honored prior to the beginning of the match.

     SCOUTING THE SPARTANS            

  • The Spartans come into their final home match of the season 6-12 overall and 2-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.  

  • Most recently, UNCG went 2-1 in last week's matchups, defeating North Carolina A&T, 7-0, and Davidson, 7-0, before falling to Richmond, 5-2.     

  • Khrystyuk was named SoCon Player of the Week (March 17), which is the first of his career and first for the program since 2024.    

  • Khrystyuk is 9-5 in singles play so far this season with an unblemished 5-0 record in SoCon play.    

  • The Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Feb. 17, for the first home win of the season.       

  • The Spartans opened SoCon action 1-0 with a 5-2 victory over The Citadel on Feb. 14.             

  • Gabelic captured his 100th career win against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7.           

  • The Spartans competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall season.               

  • UNCG began the fall campaign by traveling to the Elon Invitational from Sept. 12-14.               

  • The doubles duo of Sammy Presser and Alan Trbonja led the squad with two doubles victories over the first two days, making it to the final round of the Invitational.                

  • UNCG then hosted the Spartan Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-20 at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.                

  • As a team, the Spartans won 20 singles matches over the three-day event.                

  • UNCG took part in the Davidson Fall Invitational at Davidson Tennis Courts from Sept. 26-27. In the two-day event, Gabelic won all three matches to win his draw.               

  • At the ITA Carolina Regionals, Oct. 16-Oct. 19, the tandem of Gabelic and William Elmers made it to the Round of 16 on Saturday before losing to South Carolina.              

  • At the SoCon Masters Qualifier, Moskowitz won his singles draw qualifying for the main tournament held in the spring.              

  • In the Wake Forest Invitational, senior Andrew Black won his singles draw, while the Spartans captured 15 victories across the three-day event in all competitions.                 

SCOUTING THE BEARS 

  • Mercer comes to Greensboro 6-11 overall and 1-2 in SoCon action.  

  • Most recently, the Bears fended off fellow SoCon partner Chattanooga, 4-3, on Sunday.      

  • Hod'Abalo Isak Padio is Mercer's best singles player, going 16-11 in all singles matches this year.  

  • The duo of Shingo Masuda and Amen Prince Gandonou are Mercers top pair, going 7-2 this season.  

  • The Bears are 1-7 on the road this season with their only win away from Macon, Georgia, is at North Florida, 4-3, on March 8.

UNCG will close out the regular season on the road, traveling to UNC Asheville on April 7 at 3:00 p.m., then travel to SoCon foe Chattanooga on April 11 at 12:00 p.m.
