Men’s Tennis Gears Up For SoCon Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will compete in the 2026 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament held from April 16-18 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Spartans will enter the SoCon Tournament as the No. 6 seed, facing No. 3 Chattanooga on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the quarterfinal match.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS              

  • The Spartans come into the SoCon Tournament as the sixth seed, going 7-14 on the season and 2-5 in SoCon action.    

  • The Spartans will look to advance to the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament for the first time since 2017.  

  • Most recently, UNCG fell to Chattanooga in the regular season finale, 6-1, in Chattanooga last Saturday. 

  • John Gabelic, Khrystyuk and Nissen all have ten singles victories on the year.  

  • Khrystyuk was named SoCon Player of the Week (March 17), which is the first of his career and first for the program since 2024.      

  • Doubles are headlined by the duo Devon Moskowitz and Gabelic who have 11 wins as a pair this season.  

  • The Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Feb. 17, for the first home win of the season.         

  • The Spartans opened SoCon action 1-0 with a 5-2 victory over The Citadel on Feb. 14.               

  • Gabelic captured his 100th career win against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7.             

  • The Spartans competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall season.                                

  • UNCG hosted the Spartan Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-20 at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.                  

  • As a team, the Spartans won 20 singles matches over the three-day event.                  

  • UNCG took part in the Davidson Fall Invitational at Davidson Tennis Courts from Sept. 26-27. In the two-day event, Gabelic won all three matches to win his draw.                 

  • At the ITA Carolina Regionals, Oct. 16-Oct. 19, the tandem of Gabelic and William Elmers made it to the Round of 16 on Saturday before losing to South Carolina.     

  • Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season at the helm of the UNCG men's tennis program.    

SCOUTING THE MOCS  

  • Chattanooga comes into the SoCon Tournament as the third seed with a 10-11 overall record and 4-3 in SoCon play.  

  • The Mocs have two All-SoCon nods to end the season as Jakub Jupa earned first team singles honors with Julian Frazzmann picking up All-SoCon Singles Second team recognition.  

  • Frazzmann leads the team with 20 singles wins on the season.   

  • Frazzmann and Krisof Kinces are the Mocs' top duo team with 15 victories in doubles matches.  

  • Head Coach Chuck Merzbacher is in his ninth season at the helm of the Chattanooga men's tennis program.
