GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team run ruled Longwood on Wednesday evening, 14-1, in five innings at UNCG Softball Stadium in non-conference play.
The Spartans are now 31-15 overall and the Lancers fell to 21-27.
This was the 16
th game this season where the Spartans registered 10 or more hits, totaling 11 hits against Longwood. UNCG's eight walks is a game high and matches the Spartans' total against ETSU on March 22.
- Longwood began the game with a solo home run in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. UNCG got out of the inning with a double play, as the Lancers left one runner on base.
- In the bottom of the first, Macy Michael led off with a walk and then Kaylyn Belfield moved her over to third on a bunt single.
- With no outs, Nya South crushed a three-run homer over the left field wall for a 3-1 advantage. This was her 13th home run of the season.
- UNCG then went on to score 11 more runs throughout the next three innings at the plate.
- The Spartans scored four runs in the bottom of the second. Macy Michael homered to deep center field, blasting a three-run shot for her ninth of the season, 6-1.
- Laney Deane added another run with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Belfield for a six-run lead, 7-1.
- Both of UNCG's runs in the bottom of the third were scored on bases-loaded walks for a 9-1 cushion.
- After a one-two-three inning on defense, the Spartans scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth.
- The first run scored on a bases-loaded walk and then Chrissy Rabenold hit a two-run double to left field for a 12-1 advantage.
- With two outs, Ava Talley roped a single to right field for an RBI and then Avery Bouquin drew a walk to score another run with the bases loaded, giving UNCG a 14-1 lead.
- The Lancers put runners on the corners with two outs, but Nadia Andarowski retired the side with two strikeouts to hold on for the five-inning 14-1 run rule victory.

The Spartans will host SoCon foe Mercer on Saturday and Sunday at UNCG Softball Stadium. The two teams will play in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m., where Kids can run the bases and receive postgame autographs, and it is alumni weekend. On Sunday the final game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and fans can play softball BINGO and buy one get one free hot dogs.
