CHATTANOOGA, TENN.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell in the quarterfinals of The Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament against No.3 Chattanooga, 4-3, at Champions Club on Thursday afternoon.
The Spartans secured the first point of the quarterfinal after collecting two-of-three doubles matches. John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz got the day started with a 6-3 win over Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa on court one. The Mocs battled back as Julian Franzmann and Kristof Kincses defeated William Elmers and Hector Nissen, 6-3, on court two. Eric Lindemann and Tymofiy Khrystyuk secured the doubles point as they came back from being down 2-5 to win 7-6 over Jaxon Lamb and Carter Ramthun on court three.
Singles saw the Mocs tie the match at one apeice with Jupa defeating Khrystyuk, 6-0, 6-0, on court one. Chattanooga took the 2-1 lead when Trystan Ryerson bested Andrew Black, 6-3, 7-6, on court six. The Mocs continued their momentum as Kinces defeated Elmers in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, on court five. However, the Spartans rallied back as Moskowitz downed Martin Delnido, 6-4, 6-3, on court three. Gabelic took a huge game win off Franzmann, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, on court two to tie up the match, 3-3. With the match in the balance, Nissen fell to Grove, 6-0, 5-7, 2-6, to end the season with the 4-3 loss.
UNCG concludes the 2026 season 7-15 overall and 2-5 in SoCon play. Gabelic paced the team with 11 singles wins this season as Khrystyuk and Nissen were named to the All-SoCon First Team Singles and All-Freshman Team, respectively.
