CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell to the Chattanooga Mocs in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Quarterfinals on Thursday, 4-0, at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Mocs took a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point. Chattanooga's Emma Pedretti and Savannah Presson claimed the first doubles match in a win over
Sofia Somoano and
Kayley Bushnell at doubles No. 2, 6-2. Addison Iacono and Rufaro Magarira put the Mocs on the board after defeating
Sophia Cedeno and
Ivet Sala-Sánchez on court one, 6-4.
Chattanooga continued its momentum into singles play by notching the first three matches for the 4-0 victory. Zara Burns gave the Mocs a 2-0 lead after defeating Sala-Sánchez, 6-0, 6-0, at singles No. 5. Jordan Fenton secured a 3-0 advantage on court six, taking down Somoano, 6-3, 6-1. Rufaro Magarira clinched the match for Chattanooga at singles No. 2, after besting
Sara Kostic, 6-4, 6-1, for the 4-0 win.
UNCG concludes the 2026 season 4-18 overall and 2-5 in SoCon play. The last time UNCG collected two SoCon wins in a season was in the 2021 campaign. In addition, Cedeno was tabbed to All-SoCon Singles Second Team and All-Freshman Team after her performance this season.
