COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team claimed first place in The 2026 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on Wednesday at Solina Country Club in Columbia, South Carolina.
With Hernandez' win, he earns an automatic bid into the 2026 NCAA Regionals. This is the second consecutive year a Spartan earned the SoCon Championships player title and fourth time in program history. Former Spartan,
Colin Dutton earned first place in the 2025 SoCon Championships, marking this year the first time UNCG has ever received the individual title back-to-back years.
TEAM
- UNCG finished in fourth place behind a nine-over-par (861) with round scores of 289-290-282.
- Chattanooga claimed first place with a five-under-par (847).
- UNCG finished ahead of ETSU, Western Carolina, Wofford and Samford, respectively.
- The Spartans finished first in the field with five eagles and a 4.65 average on par five holes.
- UNCG finished third with a 4.22 average on par four holes and fifth with a 3.28 average on par three holes, 46 birdies and 146 pars.
INDIVIDUAL
- Hernandez finished atop the 40-player leaderboard behind a nine-under-par (204) with round scores of 67-72-65. His round score of 65 is a new course record at Solina Country Club. In addition, his round score is a new season-best round score and matches his career-best.
- He finished first in the tournament in eagles (2) and par five holes average (4.25).
- Dax Isbell moved up nine spots in the final round to finish tied for ninth with an overall score of one-over-par (214) behind rounds of 73-72-69. His two-under-par (69) on Wednesday matched his season-best round score.
- Jake Lewis followed closely behind to finish in a tie for 15th place with a four-over-par (217) after notching scores of 72-72-73.
- B.J. Boyce recorded a 13-over-par (226) to finish tied for 33rd place after recording scores of 77-74-75.
- Liam Percy rounded out the scorecard after coming in as a substitution on Tuesday to finish tied for 39th place. Percy notched rounds of 76-78.
- Isbell and Hernandez both finished second in the field with a 4.00 average on par four holes.
