Women’s Tennis Set to Conclude Regular Season at Samford & Mercer

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team will conclude the 2026 regular season in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play on the road this week. The Spartans will face Samford on Friday at 2:00 p.m. EST/1:00 p.m. CST at Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavillion before traveling to Macon, Georgia, to face Mercer on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Copelan Tennis Complex.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG heads into the final week of the regular season with a 3-16 overall record and 1-4 mark in the SoCon.
  • The Spartans most recently fell to Elon on Wednesday, 5-0, in their home finale at UNCG Tennis Courts.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Samford comes into Friday's matchup with UNCG with a 10-9 overall record and 2-3 SoCon mark.
  • The Bulldogs are on a three-match losing streak after most recently falling at ETSU, 5-2, on April 3, in Johnson City, Tennessee.
  • Cathy Cardona-Carballosa is leading the Bulldogs with 12 singles wins this season.
  • Eleni Liakonis and Hailey Troup are the best doubles team on the squad with a 13-3 record on the 2026 campaign.
  • Head Coach David Vest is in his 19th season as head coach of the Samford women's tennis program.
  • Samford concluded the 2025 season 9-14 overall and 1-6 in the SoCon.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
  • Mercer currently stands 8-11 overall and 1-4 in the league.
  • The Bears will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Friday to take on Wofford at 2:00 p.m. before hosting UNCG.
  • Mercer most recently fell to the Chattanooga Mocs, 6-1, on Wednesday at UTC Tennis Center.
  • Marina De Diego Quinones is pacing the Bears with a 17-11 overall record in singles play.
  • Sofiya Tsitavets has the best singles record in SoCon play with four wins this season.
  • Ines Homberg Fernandez and Quinones are the leading doubles team with a 16-3 mark together.
  • Quinones is the overall leading doubles player with 22 wins this season.
  • Head Coach Eric Hayes is in his 13th season with the Mercer women's tennis program.
  • Mercer concluded the 2025 season 7-14 overall and 3-4 in the SoCon.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will turn their attention to the 2026 SoCon Tournament held at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from April 16-18. UNCG and the rest of the SoCon will learn its fate in the postseason following the conclusion of all regular season matches on Sunday.
