Softball Concludes Historic Season Falling to Georgia & Clemson

ATHENS, GA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to the 10th-seeded Georgia Bulldogs, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon at Jack Turner Softball Stadium, before being eliminated in the NCAA Athens Regional by Clemson with a 4-1 score later in the evening.
 
The Spartans concluded the season 43-19 overall.
 
GAME 1: UNCG 0 – UGA 8 (5 innings)
 
  • After a Bulldog leadoff walk and one out, Sarah Gordon crushed a two-run home run over the right center wall to give Georgia a 2-0 lead.
  • Brooklyn Shroyer bounced back and retired the side with her first two strikeouts of the game.
  • After two scoreless innings for Shroyer in the circle, Keirstin Roose connected for another two-run homer for the Bulldogs, extending their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth.
  • In the same inning, the Bulldogs added another run for a 5-0 lead, as Gabi Novickas walked with the bases loaded.
  • Georgia then strung together two hits and one error in the top of the fifth to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 cushion. Roose recorded an RBI double and then Jaydyn Goodwin homered to left center for two runs.
  • In the bottom fifth, Avery Bouquin was hit by a pitch and following a strikeout, Rylie Williams broke up the no-hitter with a single through the left side.
  • Georgia's defense turned a double play to end the inning and secure the 8-0 victory.

GAME 2: UNCG 1 – CU 4
 
  • In the top of the first, Clemson strung together three hits to score one run for a 1-0 advantage. On Cintron's single to center field with one out, Pavese advanced to third and was tagged out at home on a laser from Kaylyn Belfield for the second out of the inning. Rhyann Jones retired the side with a ground out.
  • With runners on first and third in the top of the third, Clemson went for the steal to second and drew the throw which caused a miscue to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
  • The Spartans were able to retire the side with a strikeout and a fly out.
  • In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Hadley Gardner singled up the middle to break the no-hitter for the Tigers.
  • Rylie Williams was then hit by a pitch and with two outs Jazmin Mejia drove the ball out to center field to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • Clemson tacked on another two runs in the top of the seventh off three hits and one error, extending its lead to 4-1.
  • The Spartans looked to threaten in the bottom of the seventh, but stranded Mejia on base as Clemson took the 4-1 win and will advance to the Regional Final against 10th-seeded Georgia tomorrow.

UNCG concluded the 2026 season with the program's fourth 40-plus win season and second time with Head Coach Janelle Breneman at the helm. Team 41 earned its fourth SoCon sweep (2018, 2021, 2023, 2026) by earning its seventh Regular Season Title and fourth SoCon Championship. This is the first sweep since 2023. The Spartans won every SoCon series this season, accomplishing the feat for the first time since 2022. The Spartans also had an impressive 18 shutouts this season, the most since 2000 when UNCG had 19. The Spartans punched their fifth NCAA Tournament ticket following claiming the SoCon Championship and went on to win their first-ever NCAA victory with a 1-0 win over Clemson.
