GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf alumnus Symon Balbin secured first place at the 62^nd Carolinas PGA North Carolina Open at Forest Oaks Country Club on Thursday.

"It was great playing so close to home," said Balbin. With Forest Oaks being one of our home courses, it felt great to get it done!"

Balbin carded rounds of 68-66-66 for an overall score of 16-under-par (200) in the three-day event. He recorded a total of 18 birdies and 34 total pars in the three rounds.

The last time a Spartan won the North Carolina Open was Noah Connor in May of 2024 after earning an overall score of 11-under-par (202) with rounds of 64-66-72.

Balbin competed for the UNCG men's golf team from 2020 to 2024. In his senior season, he was named to the All-Southern Conference (SoCon) Team after notching a 71.37 stroke average and recording six top-10 individual finishes during the 2023-24 campaign.

Along with Balbin, five other Spartans competed in the North Carolina Open, including Josh Stockwell, Will Guidry, Lincoln Newton, Keenan Royalty and Liam Percy. Guidry finished closely behind Balbin to earn seventh place with an 11-under-par (205).

The UNCG men's golf team will begin the 2026-27 season by hosting the Bryan National Collegiate from Sept. 12-13 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, North Carolina.
