Melissa Dawson was announced as the Assistant AD for Spartan Academic Support Services (SASS) beginning January of 2024.
Dawson comes to UNCG after a stint at South Carolina State from 2020 to 2022 as the Executive Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator.
Dawson has 36 years’ experience in education. Collegiately, she has served as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academic and Student Services at Northern Illinois University from 2014 to 2020, the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services from 2008 to 2014 at the University of Tulsa, the Athletics Academic Coordinator at the University of Iowa from 2005 to 2008, the Athletic Academic Counselor at the University of South Carolina from 1999-01, an Athletic Academic Counselor at the University of Kentucky from 1996 to 1999 and interned for DePaul University working under the academic advisement of men’s basketball in the summer of 1995.
In addition, Dawson has taught at Richland School District 2 in Columbia, S.C., from 2001 to 2005, 2022-2024 and Lake Zurich School District 95 in Lake Zurich, Illinois from 1989 to 1996.
Dawson played volleyball for Drake University, where she gained her Bachelors of Science in Education in 1989. She went on to earn her Masters of Education in Counseling/Higher Education from DePaul in 1996.
Dawson is a native of Barrington Ill.
