Nathan Stamey and Jake McGlone Claim Top Two Spots At N.C. Open

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men's golf alum Nathan Stamey and rising sophomore Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) took home the top two spots at the 50th annual Toshiba/Sign Art North Carolina Open this week at The Club at Irish Creek. Stamey won the event in a one-hole playoff against McGlone, who was the top amateur in the 54-hole tournament.

Stamey and McGlone finished tied for first at 54 holes of play at 10-under par 203. Stamey took home the top honor in the first hole of the playoff with a birdie, while McGlone notched a par score. Stamey won $4,000 as the winner of the N.C. Open.

Stamey, a four-year letterwinner at UNCG from 2005-08, posted his 203 score by recoding a 4-under par 67 in round one, a 5-under par 66 in round two and a 1-under par 70 in the final round. He tallied an eagle on the par-5 No. 6 in round one, 13 birdies, 35 pars and just five bogeys.

McGlone is coming off a strong freshman campaign with the Spartans and was the top amateur finisher at the N.C. Open. He posted a 10-under par 203, opening with a 1-under par 70 before carding a 6-under par 65 in round two and a 3-under par 68 in the final round. He tallied 14 birdies, 36 pars and only four bogeys in the three rounds.
