Liberty Blanks Volleyball, 3-0

GREENSBORO, NC – The UNC Greensboro volleyball team was swept by Liberty University, 3-0, Tuesday night in non-conference action in Fleming Gymnasium. The loss was UNCG's ninth straight. With the win, Liberty improves to 6-11 overall, while the Spartans move to 2-16 on the year.

Dawn Bright (Sr./Aberdeen, NC) led the Spartans early in game one. Bright recorded three of the team's first four points and with the final kill she gave UNCG the lead at 4-3. The Flames answered with Crystal Carey who recorded consecutive kills to push the lead to 12-7. Liberty rolled from there, establishing a 21-10 lead en route to a game one victory, 30-21. The two teams started game two by trading points. An assisted block by UNCG's LaJean Morrow (Jr./Asheville, NC) and Holly Long (So./Richmond, VA) tied the game at 8-8. The Flames then took the lead at 9-7 and pulled away to a nine point lead, 23-14. UNCG rallied to pull to within eight points, 16-24, after a LaJean Morrow kill. Liberty managed to stave off the Spartan attack and take game two, 30-20. UNCG started slowly in game two falling behind 8-2. The Spartans responded to tie the game at 10-10, after a kill by Lori Locascio (Fr./Lisle, IL). The Flames regained the lead at 14-13 and ran the score to 17-13 forcing a UNCG timeout. The Spartans surged after the timeout, taking the lead at 25-24 after an ace by LaJean Morrow, but the effort fell just short. Liberty held on to take game three, 30-27.

The Spartans were led by Dawn Bright's 9 kills and 11 digs. She has now recorded back-to-back 200 kill seasons. LaJean Morrow registered a team-high 11 kills. Adrian Hicks (Fr./ Morgantown, NC) tallied 25 assists, breaking her career-high for the second consecutive game.

Liberty was led by Erin McKeown's 12 kills and 21 digs. Janell Migeot and Crystal Carey added 10 kills apiece, while Kristin Colson recorded 42 assists.

The Spartans will travel to College of Charleston on Saturday at 7 pm and The Citadel on Sunday at 2 pm.
