Box Score

Box Score

UNC Greensboro senior Chris Goos scored the game-winning goal and added two assists to lead the Spartans to a 3-2 victory over High Point on Saturday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, NC. UNCG improves to 6-5 on the season, while the Panthers slip to 3-8-1.

Egill Atlason (Fr./Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) got UNCG on the board first at the 4:15 mark as he took a beautiful pass from Goos up the middle of the field before beating High Point's goalkeeper Eric Lona for the goal. The goal was Atlason's second of his freshman campaign.

High Point came back strong as Alex Thompson scored his first goal of the season at the 28:44 mark. Kenzo Tochiki was credited with the assist. Under ten minutes later, the Panthers' Kirk Rudder was taken down in the box by UNCG's James Carlson. Tochiki took the penalty kick and buried it in the bottom right of the net to give the Panthers a 2-1 advantage.

"I thought we played much better in the second half," head coach Michael Parker said. "We had a long discussion at the half about our lack of a killer instinct and our guys responded."

The second half was controlled by UNCG. Cliff Patterson (Sr./Jacksonville, NC) scored his eighth goal of the season as Goos (Sr./Houston, TX) fed the ball perfectly off a corner kick at the 40:58 mark. The pass was tipped by High Point's goalkeeper, but buried by Patterson at point blank range.

With the game knotted at two goals apiece, Goos scored the game-winning goal on a header at the 73:09 mark from Kenny Bundy (Sr./Bixby, OK). The goal was Goos' team-leading 12th of the season.

"Jeff Lochrie played very well for us tonight," Parker added. "He was without question our man of the match."

The Spartans will return to action again on Tuesday, October 15, at Georgia Southern. Kickoff is slated for 4 pm
