Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team used goals from Amy Carnell and Cara Hammond to get past The Citadel, 2-0, in Southern Conference women's soccer action from UNCG Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans (5-9-1, 2-4-1 SoCon) jumped on the Bulldogs just 5:53 into the match. Dacia Beachum (Fr./Raleigh, NC) beat a Citadel defender on the right wing, slotted the ball to an open Cara Hammond (Fr./Howell, NJ), who found Carnell alone in the six-yard box. Carnell buried the scoring chance for her sixth goal of the season.

UNCG thoroughly dominated the match, holding a 41-4 advantage in shots. The Spartans were then unable to get anything past Bulldog goalkeeper Martha Skinner until the 83rd minute. Hammond tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season off an assist from Rakel Logadottir (So./ Hafnarfjordur, Iceland). It was Logad?ttir's team and conference leading 10th assist of the season. Logadottir is just the sixth Spartan to register 10 or more assists in a single season.

The 41 shots for UNCG were a season high and most since Oct. 28, 1997 when the Spartans registered a school record 50 against East Tennessee State. Carnell, who scored early in the first half, recorded 10 shots on goal, equaling the single-game individual mark held by Ali Lord. Lord set the mark on Sept. 4, 1995, in a 6-0 victory over Charleston Southern.

Angie Rudy (Sr./Doylestown, PA) picked up her third shutout of the season. Rudy made just two saves.

The victory also ended the UNCG eight-match winless streak. The Spartans tied College of Charleston earlier this week, but had not picked up a victory since their 1-0 triumph at ETSU on September 20.

The Spartans return to action this Wednesday, Oct. 23, with another crucial Southern Conference match. Wofford travels to UNCG Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. kick-off. UNCG leads the all-time series with the Terriers, 7-0.
