DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's soccer team exploded for eight goals Tuesday night at Richardson Stadium, including five in the second half, as the Wildcats downed SoCon-rival UNC Greensboro, 8-3. With the victory, the Wildcats move to 8-4-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the Southern Conference, while the Spartans fall to 8-6 and 2-3.

With the score 3-1 in favor of Davidson at the start of the second period, UNC Greensboro struck quickly to make it a one-goal game. The Spartans' Jeff Lochrie one-timed a Chris Goos cross into the near side of the net at 50:43. From there however, the Wildcats broke open the game, netting three goals in a span a seven minutes. Sophomore Ben Kittinger opened the floodgates as he hit a low liner into the far corner of the goal at 54:49. Less than two minutes later, sophomore Dan Ferriter scored his third goal of the game to make the score, 5-2. Senior Nick Hansell got into the act with his team-leading ninth goal of the year at 61:37.

Davidson senior Hussein Nasreddin and freshman Jeff Davis tallied the Wildcats' last two goals while Egill Atlason gave UNCG it's third goal.

Ferriter opened the scoring 20 minutes into the contest when goalkeeper Soren Johnson's punt bounced by the entire Spartan defense. Ferriter then outraced UNC Greensboro's goalie to the ball and found the open net. UNCG's Svafnir Gislason headed a Goos cross into the upper far corner of the goal at 33:48 to even the match at one. After senior Joel Sadler put Davidson up 2-1, Ferriter notched his second goal of the evening with just 26 seconds remaining in the first half, giving the 'Cats a 3-1 lead at the break.

Davidson next hosts nationally-ranked Clemson on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Richardson Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. UNCG faces Duke in the Big Four Tournament in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, Oct. 25. That game is slated to start at 5 p.m.
