Volleyball Blanked By Western Carolina, 3-0

GREENSBORO, NC - The UNC Greensboro volleyball team dropped a hard fought, 3-0, match to Western Carolina, Saturday night in Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG (4-21, 2-11) managed to stay close with Western Carolina (19-7, 10-3) for most of the match, but it was not enough to overtake the Catamounts.

The Spartans dominated early in game one by controlling the net. Kim Dayton (Jr./Fayetteville, NC) connected on four thundering kills in a span of five points to push the Spartan lead to 13-10. Western Carolina then rallied to take the lead, 16-15, on a Spartan serving error. An ace by Kim Dayton regained the lead for UNCG, 22-20, but the Catamounts answered with Sara Komosinski, who recorded a game -high 18 kills. WCU took game one 30-25. Western opened game two quickly with a 3-0 run, before pushing the lead to 5-2. Back-to-back kills by Dawn Bright (Sr./Aberdeen, NC) closed the gap to within one, 4-5. However, Komosinski was able to thwart the Spartan attack with a kill that put the Catamounts up by two, 9-7. Western Carolina rolled from that point pushing the lead to 18-12, en route to the 30-18 game two victory. Game three started similarly to game two with the Spartans falling behind 3-0. A kill by Kim Dayton managed to keep the Spartans close, knotting the score at 4-4, but the Catamounts retook the lead on the very next point, 5-4. The Catamounts managed to hold onto the lead to take game three, 30-19, and the match, 3-0.

UNCG was led by Kim Dayton who recorded 10 kills and 17 digs. Dawn Bright added seven kills and 10 digs, while Claire Jackson (Fr./Richmond, VA) chipped in with 10 digs. Adrian Hicks (Fr./Morganton, NC) once again led the Spartans in assists with 24.

Sara Komosinski's 18 kills led the Catamounts. She also recorded 10 digs and three blocks. Eleanor Talbot and Shari Harder contributed to the defensive effort with 20 and 15 digs, respectively.

UNCG will return to action Sunday at 2 pm to face Southern Conference rival Chattanooga.
