Volleyball Downed By Appalachian State In Regular Season Finale

Boone, NC —In the final game of the regular season the UNC Greensboro volleyball team was defeated by Appalachian State in three games, 30-16, 30-23, 30-24, in volleyball action Saturday night from the Holmes Center.

In game one, UNC Greensboro started out hot as they managed an early 6-4 lead. After tying the game at seven, Appalachian took control and built their lead to 10 at 23-13. The Spartans could not overcome the 10-point deficit, losing game one 30-16.

The Spartans tied the game early at 5, but the Mountaineers then built a six point advantage at 12-6. UNCG attempted to gain ground on Appalachian as they closed the gap to five at 15-10. The Spartans got no closer than that as the Mountaineers extended the lead to seven at 28-21, en route to the 30-23 game two win.

In game three the Mountaineers started quickly jumping out to a 5-2 lead that they would never relinquish, on the way to a 30-24 game three win.

UNC Greensboro was led by Dawn Bright with eight kills. Lori Collins added seven and Adrian hicks provided 25 assists. Rebekah Faulise led the Spartans with 13 digs.

Appalachian was led by Katherine Dean as she pounded 18 kills on the evening. Teammate Kali Rumberger had nine kills. Chrissy Finch and Stefanie Panzer each had 8 kills.

The win improves the Mountaineers to 15-17 overall, 9-11 in SoCon play while UNC Greensboro moves to 7-25, 5-15 in the SoCon.
