Volleyball Defeated By Davidson, 3-0

Davidson, NC – In the opening match of a critical four game stretch the UNC Greensboro volleyball team was edged in straight sets, 30-24, 30-19, and 30-21, by Davidson Tuesday evening in Belk Arena. The victory moves the Spartans to 6-23 on the season and 4-13 in the Southern Conference, while Davidson improves to 19-9 overall and 12-4. The Spartans are still in contention for the eighth and final playoff spot, as the team is currently tied with Chattanooga for ninth place and one game behind ETSU for eighth, with three conference games remaining on the schedule.

Facing one of the conference's most formidable opponents, the Spartans managed to control the opening frames of the match. The host Wildcats, however, managed to remain close and with the score tied 23-23, the Cats went on a 7-1 run to squeak past UNCG, 30-24.

Both games two and three were closely contested. LaJean Morrow kept the Spartans close with a team-best 12 kills, but it was not enough to overtake the Wildcats. In each game, the Wildcats managed to contain the Spartan attackers just enough to take game two, 30-19, and game three, 30-21.

LaJean Morrow had 12 putaways to lead the Spartans and Kim Dayton finished with a match-best 11 digs.

Latisha Chapman paced the Wildcats with a match-high 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .714. Tamara Galllen led the team defensively, notching nine digs.

UNCG hits the road this weekend to take on conference-leading Georgia Southern. The Spartans face GSU on Saturday, November 9, at 2 pm. Davidson is also at Georgia Southern this weekend. The Wildcats square off with the Eagles on Sunday, November 10, at 2 pm.
