CHATTANOOGA, TN – In a matchup of two teams searching for their first Southern Conference win, the UNC Greensboro volleyball team was defeated, 3-0, by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Saturday afternoon at Maclellan Gym.
The Spartans (2-12, 0-4 SoCon) started out quickly in game one, before Chattanooga (4-8, 1-2 SoCon) rallied to take the game, 30-21, by out hitting the Spartans .286 to .024. UNCG had its best opportunity in game two, pushing the Lady Mocs to game point twice, but the Spartans could not hold on. After taking game two, 32-30, Chattanooga jumped out to an early 15-7 lead in game three. The Spartans managed to cut into the Chattanooga lead, but they could not overcome the early deficit as they lost game three, 30-26. The victory for Chattanooga was the 250th in the career of Coach Lisa Rhodes
Senior Dawn Bright led the Spartans with 12 kills, seven total blocks, and six digs. She now has 591 kills at UNCG, which places her only five kills behind Melanie Trexler for 10th place all-time at UNCG. Freshman Lori Locascio set a new career-high with 11 kills, while junior Kim Dayton added nine digs defensively. Sophomore Juliet Pack chipped in with 34 assists and five digs.
Julie Buck and Amanda Hardyman's 10 kills provided the offense for the Lady Mocs. Lindsey Galloway picked up 13 digs and Jessica Woodby added 41 assists
The Spartans will return to action Tuesday as they host Davidson. The game will begin at 7 pm.
