Chris Goos Records Hat Trick In Spartans 3-2 Victory Over Liberty

UNCG's Chris Goos recorded a hat trick in the Spartans' 3-2 victory over Liberty on Saturday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,293. With the win, UNCG improves to 5-3 on the season, while Liberty slips to 6-2-1.

Goos (Sr./Houston, TX) got the Spartans (5-3,0-1 SoCon) on the board first at the 9:34 mark of the first half. Liberty (6-2-1, 1-0-1 Big South) capitalized on its first scoring opportunity to tie the game, 1-1. Pavel Cancura scored off a pass from Darryl Roberts at the 15:18 mark. Minutes later the Flames'Chase Perry broke free thanks to a pass from Cancura and buried a shot past UNCG's goalkeeper Joe Crump to take a 2-1 lead at 21:25.

At the 34:50 mark, off a cross from the left side, Egill Atlason (Fr./Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) was taken down from behind in the box. The Spartans were awarded a penalty kick. Goos placed the PK in the bottom left of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

The Spartans ended the scoring at the 52:06 mark when Goos chipped in his third goal of the game. James Carlson (So./East Lansing, MI) and Doug Prewett (Jr./Austin, TX) were credited with the assist.

UNCG outshot Liberty 25-12 in the contest. Liberty's Patrick Heery recorded 10 saves on the night. Crump (Jr./Greensboro, NC) got the start in goal for the Spartans and picked up three saves, while Charlie DeMello (Sr./Shreveport, LA) entered the game in the second half quickly recorded four saves.

The victory gives the Spartans a 16-2-1 all-time record in homecoming matches. In 19 contests, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 66-13.

UNCG will return to the field again on Tuesday, October 1 at the College of Charleston. Kickoff is set for 6 pm. Liberty returns home on Tuesday to take on George Mason at 7 pm.
