Joseph scored his 1,000 career point against Davidson

Davidson, NC - Wayne Bernard scored a game-high 34 points to lead Davidson to a hard fought 83-72 victory over UNC Greensboro in collegiate men's basketball action on Saturday night in Belk Arena.

Jay Joseph's 19 points give the junior 1,004 points in his career. Joseph becomes the 12th player in Spartan history to reach the milestone and just the seventh to do so in the Division I era (1991-present).

UNCG managed to keep Davidson quiet in the game's early minutes as the Wildcats didn't get their first field goal of the game until Matt McKillop hit a 3-pointer from the right wing
at the 13:35 mark.

Davidson's offensive woes would not last long as Wayne Bernard scored 10 consecutive points for the Wildcats as they raced out to a 26-17 advantage late in the first stanza. UNCG rallied and cut the lead to one, 32-31, but Davidson took a 35-31 lead into the intermission.

UNCG came out aggressive in the second half as the Spartans went on a 13-2 run early to pull ahead 46-41. With the score knotted at 52 points, Bernard ripped off 14 straight points to give the Wildcats a 66-57 advantage with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.

Davidson posted their biggest advantage at 71-59, but the Spartans scored eight straight points to cut the lead to four, 71-67.Just like that, the Wildcats knocked down two straight 3-pointers to pull back ahead by double-digits, 77-67.

The Wildcats buried their last six 3-point attempts down the stretch to seal the victory.

The Spartans have a quick turnaround, hosting Western Carolina on Monday, January 27. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm in Fleming Gymnasium.
