SPARTANBURG, SC - The UNCG women's soccer team got a late second-half goal from Dacia Beachum in edging Wofford, 1-0, in Southern Conference action, Friday night at Snyder Field.
"I am real proud of our team tonight," said head coach Eddie Radwanski. "Our team continued to fight and work hard on the offensive side of the ball. It is very tough to win on the road in the Southern Conference, so this is a very good win for us."
After a scoreless first half which saw the Lady Terriers hold a 9-8 advantage in shots, both teams remained even trading scoring opportunities back and forth.
At 84:43, the Spartans' Jaime Ableman broke free from the Wofford defense down the left side and played a cross to a streaking Dacia Beachum in the middle of the field. Beachum one-timed the pass near the top of the 18-yard box and fired the shot past a diving Austin Somers for the game's only goal.
Christine Pezzutti led the Lady Terriers with eight shots, while four other players recorded two apiece. Amy Carnell posted four shots to lead UNC Greensboro.
Spartan goalkeeper Jennifer Stillman recorded seven saves of the night, in recording her third consecutive shutout, and fifth overall this season.
With the win, UNCG improves to 7-5-2 overall and 5-1 in the SoCon, while Wofford drops to 5-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in league play.
The Spartans will travel to Cullowhee, NC, to take on Western Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.
