Spartans cruise past College of Charleston, 5-1

Box Score

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro (4-5-2, 2-1 SoCon) sophomore Amy Carnell (Lake Stevens, WA) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as UNCG cruised past Southern Conference foe College of Charleston (6-5, 3-3 SoCon), 5-1 in women's college soccer action, Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

"We did a great job finishing our chances today," said UNCG head coach Eddie Radwanski. "We were really happy on how we attacked. I thought our defensive group did a great job, particularly after we were down to 10 players in the second half. It was a good performance over a conference rival and we are ready to go forward."

Carnell would record her fourth and fifth goals of the season in a nine-minute span early in the first half to help give UNCG a 2-0 lead at intermission.

The score would remain the same until the 72:21 mark when sophomore Dacia Beachum (Raleigh, NC) scored her second goal of the season off a pass from Shannnon Donovan.

Senior Cheryl Stewart (St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada) would extend the Spartan lead to 4-0 at the 78:58 mark, when she scored her second goal of the season off a cross from Rakel Logadoittir. Logadottir, the junior from Hafnarfjordur, Iceland, finished the match with three assists, giving her a SoCon-leading eight for the season.

Freshman Carolyn Lindsay would add an insurance goal for the Spartans, a little over a minute later, off a feed from Dacia Beachum.

College of Charleston's lone goal of the match came at the 88:45 mark of the match when Perri Brenner notched her second goal of the season.

UNCG will next take on SoCon rival Appalachian State on Thursday, October 9 at 7 p.m., at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. College of Charleston will host Furman on Friday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
