Spartans close out regular season with a 3-1 win over Davidson

Box Score

DAVIDSON, N.C. - UNC Greensboro junior Rakel Logadottir scored a goal and added an assist to lead the UNCG women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Davidson on Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

The Wildcats jumped on top mid-way through the first period when Davidson's leading scorer, sophomore Kara Koehrn, netted her seventh goal of the season. Koehrn took a long pass, beat two defenders on the right side of the box and thumped the ball into the top left corner of the net.

UNCG responded quickly, getting on the scoreboard just over six minutes later when sophomore Dacia Beachum headed in a corner from Logadottir. Beachum's goal left the game knotted 1-1 at halftime.

UNCG possessed the ball for much of the second half, but could not score until 10 minutes into the period when sophomore Amy Carnell shot the ball from 20 yards out. Carnell's shot ricocheted off the top crossbar and fell to a waiting Jaime Ableman. The Spartan junior collected the rebound and put it into the net for the game-winner. Logadottir would score an unassisted goal in the 71st minute to provide the final tally.

Davidson finishes the season at 6-12-2 overall and 3-6-2 and will not make the Southern Conference tournament. UNCG finishes the year at 11-6-2 overall and 9-2 in SoCon play.

The Spartans, who are the number two seed for next week's SoCon Tournament, will take on either Appalachian State or Wofford in Thursday's quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
