DAVIDSON, NC – Forward Randi Patterson had a goal and an assist as the No. 2-ranked UNC Greensboro men's soccer team (10-0-1, 4-0-1 SoCon) defeated Davidson, 2-1, in Southern Conference action Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.
With the win, the Spartans earned their tenth victory, matching last year's total for the entire season.
Patterson, a sophomore from Hackensack, NJ, opened the scoring at 33:21 when he scored unassisted. The goal for Patterson, his 11th of the season and 22nd in his career, moves him into UNCG's top ten career list.
Freshman Matt Smith gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead just 14 seconds after the second half kickoff when he connected on a shot from 20 yards out off a pass from Patterson.
Davidson (3-7, 0-2 SoCon) got on the board at 59:20 when forward Tom Lavan took a pass from Mac Wilkie at the top of the 18-yard box and scored.
Spartan goalkeeper Jay Benfield had four saves in recording the win for UNCG, while Bart Creasman stopped three shots for Davidson.
UNC Greensboro, off to its best start since a 14-0-0 start in 1996, returns home to host the UNCG/adidas Classic this weekend. UNCG will take on Coastal Carolina on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then will face Mercer on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
