GREENSBORO, NC - The UNC Greensboro women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to Georgia Southern in a Southern Conference match this afternoon at Fleming Gymnasium. The first-place Eagles (12-5, 8-1 SoCon) won their third straight outing by the score of 30-16, 30-25, 29-31 and 30-21, and have now won six straight over the Spartans (2-21, 0-8 SoCon) and lead the all-time series 8-7.
Freshman middle hitter Cindy VanDervoort put away a UNCG team-high 13 kills to lead three players in double-digits. Lauren Richards and Lauren Keiser added 11 and 10 kills respectively.
Rebekah Faulise came up with an incredible 31 digs to set the Spartans school mark for a four-game match. The previous best was 28 that occured on three occasions. Faulise also holds the five-game match record for the Spartans with 33. The senior from Mooresville, NC, has 421 digs for the season, which is the seventh best single season total at UNCG. She also stands eighth in career digs with 1,055.
Iulia Porumbescu led Georgia Southern with 31 of the Eagles 70 kills on the day. She also came up with 18 digs.
UNCG will visit Campbell on Tuesday, October 19 in Buies Creek, NC at 7 pm.
