GREENSBORO, NC The UNC Greensboro women's volleyball team avenged a season-opening setback to Gardner-Webb by winning 3-0 over the Bulldogs in a non-conference match tonight at Fleming Gymnasium. Lauren Richards and Cindy VanDervoort put away 12 and 11 kills respectively to lead the Spartans to the 30-15, 30-13, 30-26 victory.

UNCG (3-24) dominated play throughout to post its second sweep of the season. In game one, the Spartans led 17-8 midway through, before taking their largest lead by winning the final point to make it 30-15. It was more of the same in game two as UNCG cruised to a 30-13 win. The final game was much closer, but the Spartans pulled away from a 22-22 tie by scoring eight of the last 12 points of the match.

Richards, a junior middle hitter from Hagerstown, MD, had a sparkling .857 hitting percentage, behind a match-high 12 kills, with zero errors on 14 attempts. Meanwhile, VanDervoort, a freshman from Greenville, NC, put up double-digits in kills for the seventh time in the last eight outings.

Rebekah Faulise, the senior out of Mooresville, NC, added to her Southern Conference lead in digs with 13. She has 1,120 digs for her career, which is the seventh best total in UNCG history. Also, Faulise's 486 for the season ranks her third on the single season list.

Maggie Cornwall, a sophomore from Franklin, TN, led Gardner-Webb with 12 kills and 13 digs.

UNCG will host SoCon backyard rival Elon on Friday at Fleming Gymnasium beginning at 7 pm.
