GREENSBORO, NC – University of Pittsburgh and UNC Greensboro each won their respective games on the second and final day of the 2004 adidas UNCG Women's Soccer Classic at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Pittsburgh defeated Old Dominion, 1-0, while tournament host UNCG blasted Coastal Carolina, 7-1.
In Pittsburgh's win over Old Dominion (2-3-1), Kristina Francois scored at the 29:20 mark unassisted for the game's only goal. Francois took a shot from 15 yards outs from the left wing. The ball bounced off the inside of the right post and into the net for what wound-up being the game-winning goal.
Jamie Pelusi recorded seven saves to earn the shutout for the Panthers (3-3), which lost to UNCG on Friday night.
In UNCG's win over Coastal Carolina, Mary Kate Towne, Amy Carnell and Deven Beachum each scored twice to pace UNCG to its second victory of the tournament. Rakel Logadottir had two assists to give her 35 for her career and tie the school-record for career assists. The senior from Hafnarfjordur, Iceland now has six assists this season.
UNCG (4-2) scored four goals in the first 18:22 to take command, two of them coming from Beachum. The redshirt-sophomore from Raleigh, NC also had a goal in Friday night's win over Pittsburgh.
Katherine Ryan made three saves for UNCG before being relieved by Michelle Crowder with 28:26 to play. Crowder recorded one save.
Bobbie Parsons scored for Coastal Carolina (3-4).
UNCG will host Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m.
