GREENSBORO, NC – The UNCG volleyball team (2-11) split a pair of matches in the opening day of competition at the UNCG Invitational, Friday at Fleming Gym. The Spartans defeated Morgan State, 3-0, while falling in the nightcap to UNC Asheville, 3-0.
The Spartans got 14 kills from freshman Lauren Keiser, while junior Adrian Hicks recorded 42 set assists as the Spartans defeated the Bears by scores of 33-31, 30-17, 30-20. Ashley Smith and Rebekah Faulise had 12 and 11 kills respectively. UNCG hit for a season-best .310 in the match.
UNC Asheville's Talia Ogle had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Allison Lambert recorded a match-high 13 kills as the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans by scores of 30-27, 30-20, 30-24. Lauren Richards had a team-high 12 kills, while Faulise had a match-high 18 digs.
In other action in the tournament, Memphis won a pair of matches defeating Florida Atlantic, 3-0, and UNC Asheville, 3-1. Tiara Gilkey had 26 kills in the match against the Bulldogs, while Nancy Nellans had 13 in the win over the Owls. Florida Atlantic picked up a win over Morgan State, 3-0. Iana Andonova had 17 kills, while Courtenay Kiebert had 42 assists.
UNCG will take on Memphis at 2:30 p.m. and Florida Atlantic at 8 p.m. in the final day of action at the UNCG Invitational.
