MT. PLEASANT, SC – Kristin Rhyne scored her second goal of the season at the 31:55 mark for the night's only tally as College of Charleston upended UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in women's soccer action Thursday night.
Rhyne scored off a throw-in by Amanda Andrews for the only tally of the night. It was the only shot Rhyne recorded in the game.
“We have to learn to come ready to play,” said UNCG coach Eddie Radwanski. “Give College of Charleston a lot of credit. They defended us well tonight and got the win. We're disappointed with our performance. We have to regroup from this and get ready to play Appalachian State on Sunday.”
The Spartans (5-4-0, 1-1-0 SoCon) outshot College of Charleston, 19-6, for the game, including a 13-4 margin in the first half. UNCG also had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. However, the Cougars (4-3-2, 2-1-1) made Rhyne's goal stand up.
Emily Brenner made seven saves for the Cougars, while Jennifer Stillman had two for the Spartans.
UNCG, which was playing on the road for the first time in nearly a month, will hit the road again Sunday when it travels to Boone, NC to take on Appalachian State at 2 p.m.
