CULLOWHEE, NC Senior Deven Beachum scored the game's only goal as the top-seeded UNC Greensboro women's soccer team advances to the Southern Conference final game after the 1-0 shutout of fifth-seeded Western Carolina Friday evening.

Raleigh, NC, gave the Spartans the one goal advantage early in the first half. At the 18:29 mark, freshman Kelly Attayek sent a pass to Beachum in a crowd of players. Beachum collected the pass and found the back of the net for her eighth goal and fourth game-winning goal of the season.
Despite being outshot 16-7, the Spartan defensive force held strong, preventing the Catamount equalizer. Junior keeper Katherine Ryan tallied four saves in the winning effort and recorded her eighth shutout of the year.
Western Carolina finishes its season with an overall record of 10-8-3. UNCG now improves to 12-7-2 overall and advances to its sixth conference title game in the 10 years it has been a part of the Southern Conference. The Spartans are undefeated in SoCon title games; coming out on top in all five previous appearances. UNCG last appeared in a conference title game in 2003.
The Spartans will take on the Furman Lady Paladins on Sunday at 1:00 pm in Cullowhee. Furman defeated Georgia Southern, 2-0, in the first semifinal game of the day.
