STATESBORO, GA – UNC Greensboro had a 21-13 advantage in overall shots, including 7-3 in shots on goal, but neither team could find the back of the goal as the Spartans and Georgia Southern played to a scoreless tie in the Southern Conference opener for both teams.
The Eagles (4-2-1, 0-0-1) may have had the best chance of overtime with 48 seconds left in the first extra session when Jason Tindall's shot hit the post.
UNCG (4-4-1, 0-0-1) had one last chance as time expired in the second overtime, but Mike Richardson's shot went wide to the left.
The game was the complete opposite of last year's two meetings, where the teams combined for 14 goals. Nate Berry had three saves for UNCG, while Georgia Southern's Adam Webb recorded save saves.
The Spartans, who are now unbeaten in the conference opener in each of the last four years (2-0-2), host Coastal Carolina on Friday night at 8 pm in a match televised by Fox Soccer Channel.
