Men's Soccer Gears Up for Liberty and Davidson

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 21 ranked UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will travel to take on undefeated Liberty Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Osborne Stadium. Then the Spartans will turn around to play Davidson College on Tuesday 7:00 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY VS LIBERTY 
UNCG  holds an 8-2-0 advantage over Liberty, with the last matchup being in 2002 ending in a 2-0 win, in Greensboro.  

SERIES HISTORY VS DAVIDSON 

The Spartans hold a 15-9-4 record over the Wildcats, with the last matchup taking place Sept. 6, 2024, in a 2-2 draw. The last time UNCG beat Davidson was in 2013, where the Spartans won 2-0 in Greensboro.   
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS 

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall and 3-1-1 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) and a shared Regular Season Title. 

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors heading into this season. 

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the total six first-place votes and totaling 24 points. 

  • The Spartans are currently ranked 21st  in the nation by the United Coaches Poll. UNCG is sitting third in the United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll and is one of three non-ACC schools in the rankings. 

  • Enzo Dovlo was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for week one of the season with five goals and one assist after the first two games played.  

  • Dovlo is fifth in the nation in goals (6) and points (16) while also being ranked 14th in assists.  

  • Sami Lachekar was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for week two after clocking in 180 minutes of action with one goal in two games played. 

  • Steven Hernandez was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for week three after two goals and the game-winning goal as time expired in the 4-3 win over Dayton, Sept. 6. 

  • The Spartans boast four players that have scored two or more goals this season and have 11 players that have scored points this season.  

  • UNCG has scored four out of its 16 total goals from set pieces. 

  • The Spartans boast one of the best offenses in the nation. Ranking 10th in scoring offense (2.83), 12th total goals (17),18th  total points (47), 16th shots on goal (7.20), 15th in shot accuracy (.525)  and  13th points per game (7.83). 

SCOUTING LIBERTY 

  • Liberty went 7-7-3 last year while going 5-3-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). 

  • Head Coach Kelly Findley enters his 19th  season at the helm going 159-142-42 in his time there. 

  • UNCG and Liberty will become conference rivals next season, as the Flames will join the SoCon for the 2026 men's soccer season. 

  • The Flames currently have a 14-2 goal differential at home this season. 

  • Liberty has held their opponents to an average of seven shot attempts per game and have the 16th best Goals Against Average mark in the nation at .500. 

  • Defender Lucas Kelly leads Liberty in scoring with nine points (4 G,1A). 

  • Sam Farner and Leo Conneh each scored three goals and had two assists for eight points on the season. 

SCOUTING DAVIDSON 

  • Davidson went 6-7-5 last year while going an even 4-4 in Altantic-10 conference play (A-10). 

  • The Wildcats are led by Head coach Mike Babst, who in his 12-year stint at Davidson has gone 124-65-27. 

  • Davidson are currently 1-2-1 in away games this season. 

  • The Wildcats are 19th in the nation in shot accuracy this year with .519 shots on target.  

  • Myles Culley leads the team in points this season with six (2G, 2A). 

  • Baylen Young is the lead assist man for Davidson with four this season. This ranks him second in the A-10 and 14th nationally.  

  • The Wildcats take on St. Bonaventure Saturday before coming to Greensboro on Tuesday.

UP NEXT 
UNCG will have a week of reprieve before going back into action next Tuesday, Sept. 30 as they travel to Elon. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Rudd field. At the Davidson match, the first 100 UNCG students receive a FREE UNCG flag!
