The win gave UNCG a 2-2-0 record in Southern Conference action, 6-8-1 overall.
College of Charleston dropped to 8-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play. Both teams are in contention for a home field slot in the SoCon Tournament's quarterfinal round and needed a win as teams with three league losses usually find themselves on the bubble for home field advantage.
UNCG jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Tebatso Manyama scored his second goal of the season at 23:20 from just inside the six-yard box.
College of Charleston tied the game at 41:08. Jake Helmig's cross found Zach Prince for his sixth goal of the season to make it 1-1.
But Just 1:34 later, Maret gave UNCG the lead. The junior from Ocala, FL scored from 25 yards out to make it a 2-1 game. With his goal, the first of the season for Maret, he became the 12th different Spartan to score a goal this season.
That lead would hold up despite College of Charleston having a gusty wind at its back for the entire second half. The Spartans, playing their 11th match decided by one goal or less this season, held on for their second-straight league win.
Nate Berry recorded seven saves in goal for the win, six of those in the first half. College of Charleston outshot the Spartans, 16-14, on the night and had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
