Partenheimer's goal leads UNCG to 1-0 win over CofC

Box Score

Jenn Partenheimer scored the golden goal in the 92nd minute of play to lead the UNC Greensboro women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory over College of Charleston at the UNCG Soccer stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win marks the 24th consecutive game that the Spartans have played in Southern Conference regular season action without a loss. The victory also marks the 99th career win for head coach Eddie Radwanski and is the third straight shut out for UNCG.

The Spartans held a 10-6 shot advantage on the afternoon, forcing College of Charleston goalkeeper Erin Smith to come up with five saves. Partenheimer, along with Charleston's Megan Manthey, led all shooters with four on the afternoon. Kelly Attayek and Lauren Lopez each had two in the winning effort for the Spartans.

Freshman Spartan goalkeeper Kelsey Kearney delivered two saves in her third straight shutout and fourth overall this season. Kearney now stands with a sparkling goals against average of 0.70 for the season. She is 5-2-1 in nine games played, having given up only six goals all year.

UNCG held the advantage on corners as well, sending six into the box to just four for the Cougars.

Partenheimer wasted no time as play started in the first overtime. Attayek delivered a ball from the top of the box to Partenheimer who slotted the ball into the lower left corner for her third goal of the season. The goal came on the Spartans first shot of the extra frame, just 1:56 into play.

The Spartans had an opportunity to win the game late in the second half, but a cross from Partenheimer skimmed through the six yard box without finding a Spartan.

UNCG had a few opportunities as the game developed, including a header from Jamie Corti in the early going of the first half. Corti connected on the Spartans' first corner of the day, but had her shot blocked by a Charleston defender on the goal line in the ninth minute of play. Lopez connected on the rebound but sent the ball just over the cross bar.

It seemed as if the Spartans had taken the lead with just under three minutes to play in the first half, but an apparent goal by Katelynn Donovan was taken off the board due to an offside call.

UNCG will look to give Radwanski his 100th career victory as the Spartans welcome Western Carolina next Friday for a 7:00 pm match up. Live stats and video feed via Spartan All-Access will be available on www.uncgspartans.com.
