GREENSBORO, NC Tebatso Manyama scored 1:15 into the second overtime period as UNC Greensboro defeated Wofford, 1-0, in Southern Conference men's soccer action Tuesday night.
The win snapped UNCG's four-game losing skid and gave the Spartans (4-7-1, 1-2-0) their first league win of the year. Wofford (4-8-0, 0-3-0) lost its fifth straight and lost for the 15th straight time against UNCG.
After a scoreless regulation period, Wofford had an early chance before UNCG came back down the field. Manyama took the ball from the right side of the box. Dribbled along the 18-yard-line and just after crossing the midway point of the box, hit a left footer into the top left corner of the goal. It was Manyama's first tally of the season.
The Spartans had been snakebitten in one-goal games, having played more than their share this season. It was the 10th time in 12 matches this year that UNCG played a one-goal game. UNCG is now 3-6-1 in those matches.
Nate Berry had three saves to record the shutout for UNCG, including a point-blank save on Wilson Hood late in regulation time. Joey Taylor had four saves for Wofford.
UNCG had a 12-9 advantage in shots and 6-4 margin in corner kicks.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday night when they host High Point for a 7 pm match.
