East Carolina tops UNCG in exhibition, 2-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina topped UNC Greensboro's women's soccer team, 2-0, in an exhibition match at Bunting Field on Friday.

The teams played a 45-minute period followed by two 30-minute periods. Neither side scored through the first two periods, but the Pirates finally found the back of the net in the third and final stanza.

Jessica Swanson drew first blood for the Pirates, banging home a loose ball past UNCG keeper Kelsey Kearney after a corner kick in the 87th minute. Tricia Tufts earned the assist on the play.

ECU notched an insurance goal with just under two minutes left in the contest, as Amanda Malkiewicz beat her defender one-on-one and slid a shot past keeper Alex Perry to salt away the 2-0 win. Kimmy Cummings and Christiane Cordero were credited with assists on the play.

The Spartans outshot East Carolina 14-13 on the afternoon, including an 8-3 margin in the first period. UNCG also doubled up ECU with 10 corner kicks to the Pirates' five.

Freshman Tabitha Padgett led the Spartans with four shots, while junior Jenn Partenheimer had three, two of which were on frame.
