Women’s Soccer Hosts Furman Thursday, Travels to Wofford Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team is set to host Furman on Thursday at UNCG Soccer Stadium with a start time of 6:00 p.m., before hitting the road to face Wofford on Sunday at Snyder Field at 2:00 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY VS FURMAN
The Spartans hold the slight edge with a 19-18-4 record over the Paladins. Furman took the win in 2024, 1-0, in Greenville, South Carolina.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS WOFFORD
UNCG leads the all-time series over Wofford, 26-2-5. The Spartans defeated the Terriers, 2-0, last year in Greensboro. UNCG has won the last five of eight games against Wofford.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG and Chattanooga played to a 2-2 draw on Friday. Rina Ogimoto scored both goals for the Spartans. The Mocs outshot the Spartans, 18-8, while UNCG had seven saves and Chattanooga had three.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • Emma Malone returns as the leading goalkeeper after notching 61 saves with a 1.14 GAA in 2024.
  • Taylor Mentzer is the returning leading scorer for the Spartans after the senior recorded five goals last season.
  • Merle Greulich follows closely behind as the returning leading scorer with four goals last season and was recognized as The 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Freshman of the Year. 
  • Ava Kiss returns after leading the team with three assists last season and posting three goals as well.
  • So far this season, Rina Ogimoto paces the team with 12 points (5G, 2A).
  • Mentzer is second on the team with two goals and four points.
  • Kiss and Ryen Ortiz both have three points this season (1G, 1A).
  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
  • The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points.
  • Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preason All-Conference Team.
  • Poplin started and played in all 19 games the past two seasons for the Blue & Gold with a career total of 3,238 minutes. She notched two goals for four points during the 2024 campaign.
SCOUTING FURMAN
  • Furman was picked to finish fifth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Paladins concluded the 2024 season 10-7-3 overall and 5-2-2 in SoCon play, falling in a SoCon Semifinal match to Samford, 1-0.
  • Furman is outscoring opponents, 2.36 goals per game to 0.73.
  • The Paladins are also outshooting opponents, 16.1-11.1.
  • Maddie Massie (5G, 2A) and Norah Roller (5G, 2A) each have 12 points to lead the team.
  • Callah Dando is pacing the team with four assists, while adding one goal for a total of six points.
  • In net, Reese DeJong has started and played in 11 games for the Paladins, giving up just eight goals for 0.76 goals against average.
  • In the nation, Furman is 12th in corner kicks per game (7.09), 15th in won-lost-tied percentage (.818), 16th in goal differential (18), 24th in scoring offense (2.36), 25th in total goals (26), 27th in shots on goal per game (7.73), 28th in total points (75) and 30th in points per game (6.82).
SCOUTING WOFFORD
  • Wofford was voted to finish eighth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Terriers finished the 2024 season 6-12-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference.
  • Wofford will travel to ETSU on Thursday before hosting the Spartans on Sunday.
  • Opponents are outscoring the Terriers, 1.31-0.85.
  • Julia Grier is pacing the team with (3G, 2A) for eight points.
  • Ellie Gower is leading the team with three assists.
  • Elizabeth Navola has started and played in 13 games this season, giving up 16 goals for a 1.25 goals against average.
  • Navola is nationally ranked 26th in total saves (55).
