WILMINGTON, N.C. - Tyler Wheaton scored with 43 seconds left in the second overtime to lift UNC Wilmington to a 2-1 win over UNC Greensboro in men's soccer action Saturday night.
UNCG (1-4-1) had a 20-13 advantage in shots and 7-4 in corner kicks for the night. The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead nearly 17 minutes in when E.J. O'Keeffe scored his second goal of the season. O'Keeffe hit a blast from 30 yards out that went off goalkeeper Brock Duckworth and went into the left corner of the goal.
The Seahawks (4-1-0) tied it 13 minutes later when Wheaton's shot from 18 yards out was deflected by Nassim Berhouni past keeper Peyton Ford and into the goal.
The scored remained that way until late in the second overtime. Tyler Clare hit a short cross from the right side that found Wheaton, who chipped it past Ford for the gamewinner.
UNCG returns to action on Wednesday when they visit Campbell for a 7 pm kickoff.
