GREENVILLE, S.C. –
After 110 minutes of play, the UNCG women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against Furman Friday night at Stone Soccer Stadium. Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Simmons (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) tied a school-record with 15 saves set in 2001 by Kathryn Clewley.

With the tie, the Spartans improve to 6-6-1 overall and a 3-1-1 record in the SoCon. The Paladins sit at 9-2-2 with a 2-1-2 mark in the SoCon.

In the second overtime, Furman quickly placed a header shot on goal from Stephanie DeVita but Simmons kept the game tied.

One minute later, the Paladins were awarded a penalty shot as Martha Hall was turned away by Simmons. In the 105th minute, freshman Zoe Fishman (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real Charter) fired a shot on frame but Furman keeper Rose Hull made the save.

With a minute left, Simmons made two more late saves to preserve the draw stopping Alyssa Althoff and DeVita again.

In the first overtime, senior Lauren Hein (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance) had a shot on goal but Hull made the stop. Simmons collected two saves against Jamie Alexander with time running out in the extra frame.

Simmons finished the game with a career-high 15 saves with six coming against reigning SoCon Player of the Week DeVita.

Furman took a 1-0 lead after Stephanie DeVita scored her 14th goal of the season in the 59th minute.

The Spartans quickly answered just two minutes later as senior Cat Barnekow (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa) found the back of the net off a corner kick wrapping a shot inside the post. Barnekow scored her four goal of the season to tie for the team lead.

In the first half, UNCG and Furman each had opportunities but the game remained scoreless at the half. Hein had a shot on goal in the 18th minute but Paladins keeper Rose Hull made the save. Furman kept the game tied after freshman forward Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) had her shot blocked followed by a corner kick leading to another shot on goal by Hein but Hull made the stop.

Simmons made three first half saves, including two on SoCon women's soccer Player of the Month Stephanie DeVita.

UNCG heads to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Wofford Sunday at 2 p.m. at Snyder Field.
