GREENSBORO, N.C. –UNCG shot a season-high 53 percent and placed four players in double figures as the Spartans secured their seventh straight victory with an 82-71 win over The Citadel in Southern Conference play, Thursday at Greensboro Coliseum.

Sophomore guard Trevis Simpson scored a game-high 23 points for the Spartans (9-14 overall, 7-4 SoCon), who matched the second-longest winning streak in school's Division I era. The last time a UNCG team won as many as seven straight came when the 1995-96 squad won eight in a row.

The win also helped UNCG close out a perfect five-game home stand during which the Spartans vaulted to the top of the SoCon's North Division.

UNCG led for nearly the entire game. After leading by as many as seven points (11-4) early in the first half, the Spartans found themselves on the wrong end of a 10-3 run by the Bulldogs (4-18, 1-10), who took a 20-18 lead on a Mike Groselle layup with 10:10 left in the half.

Derrell Armstrong quickly regained the lead for the Spartans, hitting a three-pointer for a 21-20 advantage with 10:03 before halftime, and UNCG never trailed again. The Spartans led 39-29 at halftime.

The Citadel got as close as four points (45-41) in the second half, but UNCG quickly regained control of the game. A three-point play by Aloysius Henry and a three-pointer from Drew Parker pushed UNCG's lead to 10 points at 51-41.

The lead swelled to as many as 15 points when Henry converted a layup for a 66-51 lead with 9:52 left. The margin never dipped below double digits after that.

Henry enjoyed his best game of the season, finishing with a season-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. He added seven rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots.

Armstrong added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Korey Van Dussen chipped in with 11 points and seven assists.

Groselle led the Bulldogs with 20 points.

The Spartans were 8-of-20 from three-point range and 12-of-16 from the free throw line. UNCG out-rebounded The Citadel, 35-28.

The Citadel was limited to 43 percent shooting.

UNCG next visits Furman, 3 p.m., Saturday. The game can be seen on ESPN3.
