BOONE, N.C. – The UNCG women's basketball team continues life on the road Sunday, playing its third-straight game away from home with a contest against Appalachian State. Tipoff at the Holmes Convocation Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Spartans have dropped their last six decisions but gave a great effort at Elon Monday - taking a 34-32 lead at halftime before falling just short by a 71-60 score. 

Junior forward Janae' Stevenson (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) posted her second-straight double-double and third of the season, racking up 17 points and 14 rebounds with nine of the boards coming on the offensive glass. Freshman guard Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) also reached double figures offensively with 12 points to go along with a career high-tying seven rebounds. She also posted a team-best three steals as UNCG totaled 12 in the contest. 

The Spartans suffered from a cold shooting second half in which they hit just seven of 33 attempts. The Blue and Gold finished at 30 percent for the contest after knocking down 19 of 64 from the field. Elon won the battle on the boards by a 45-36 count, but UNCG picked up 18 offensive rebounds to the Phoenix' 14. Additionally, the Spartans recorded 13 assists on their 19 buckets and committed just 14 turnovers while forcing Elon into 23 of its own. 

• Monday's contest marks the 58th between UNCG and Appalachian State with the Mountaineers holding a slight 29-28 advantage in the series. Appalachian has won six straight over the Spartans with the last UNCG coming Feb. 23, 2009 in a 74-60 decision at Fleming Gymnasium. 

• In the last encounter between the programs, Senior Jazz Weaver matched her career high with 13 points and UNCG put two in double figures. Natalie Headley joined Weaver in double figures with 10 for the Spartans. Sidnei Harmon and Breonna Patterson just missed double digits themselves with nine points each while Janae' Stevenson flirted with a double-double by posting eight points and nine rebounds. Courtney Freeman scored a game-high 19 points for App State which also benefitted by 18 points and 10 rebounds from Anna Freeman and 14 points from Maryah Sydnor. 

• The Mountaineers are enjoying another successful season as they are 11-3 overall and 5-1 in Southern Conference play after a 63-55 road victory over a pesky College of Charleston team Friday in Charleston. Reigning SoCon Player of the Week Maryah Sydnor matched her second highest game of the season with 21 points against the Cougars, while Anna Freeman added 17 for the Mountaineers. Appalachian shot just 39.3 percent on the night, but grabbed 45 rebounds against the Cougars. The win marks the Mountaineers' eighth-straight victory against College of Charleston. Courtney Freeman earned her second double-double of the season, with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Anna Freeman shot 4-4 from the line. 

• Appalachian benefits from the all-around play of Anna Freeman, who averages team-best marks in scoring average (17.6 ppg) and rebounding average (8.7 rpg). UNCG will also want to keep the Mountaineers off the foul line as much as possible as ASU is shooting 81 percent (207-for-256) from the charity stripe.
