Box Score MACON, Ga. – The UNCG women's soccer team scored a late goal from junior Candice Forbes (Pleasant Garden, N.C./Southeast Guilford) leading to a 1-1 draw at Mercer Friday night at Bear Field.
UNCG sits at 4-4-3, 0-0-1 in the SoCon while Mercer is 5-4-1, 0-0-1 in Southern Conference action. The Spartans still haven't loss to the Bears in four games all-time.
In the first overtime, Mercer had a chance when Washida Blackman worked her way inside the box and fired a shot where Buehler made the save. Blackman had a header shot go just high less than a minute later in the extra period.
Both teams continued to battle in the second overtime as each team finished with a shot apiece in the final period. Forbes had one last chance in the closing seconds but her attempt went just wide of the net.
The Spartans put the pressure on Mercer in the second half finishing with nine second half shots holding the Bears to just four.
UNCG found the equalizer in the 85th minute as junior Zoe Fishman (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real Charter) made a strong run crossing a pretty ball inside the box where Forbes placed a header into the back of the net.
Junior Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) had a chance in the 55th minute after she dribbled in and fired a shot just wide of the net. White had another chance just a minute later as sophomore Georgia Brown (Dunedin, New Zealand/St. Hilda's Collegiate) placed a ball inside the box where White's header was blocked.
In the 76th minute, Forbes made a run down the left side crossing a ball into the box where White fired on net but goalkeeper Maggie Cropp made the save.
The Bears led 1-0 at halftime controlling most of the possession putting seven shots on frame. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg/Penn State) made a couple of terrific saves to keep Mercer off the scoreboard ending the half with six saves.
Just two minutes into the game, Mercer took a 1-0 lead off a free kick from Sarah Daane after the Spartans committed a foul just outside the box.
In the 14th minute, sophomore Alexis Thomas (Bishop, Ga./Oconee County) made a run down the right side and crossed a ball inside the box where classmate Katelyn Mountjoy (Highland Village, Texas/Marcus) had a shot go wide of the net.
