Box Score Spartanburg, S.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team improved to 4-7-3 Monday night with a 2-1 win over Wofford in Southern Conference action. Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) scored both of the Spartans goals in the second half to become the team leader in goals this season. UNCG improves to 2-1-1 in SoCon action and returns to the pitch Friday on the road against Chattanooga.
The Terriers took an early lead when Katie Beuerlein scored from 16-yards out on a pass from Katherine Whisenhunt in the sixth minute. Wofford held the early lead for the remainder of the half. UNCG edged the Terriers 6-5 in shots but Wofford's goalkeeper Mayson Liner was the only one to record a save in the opening frame.
After the break, UNCG came out full of energy. White scored the equalizer in the 66th minute when a pass from Candice Forbes (Pleasant Garden, N.C./Southeast Guilford) fed from 27-yards out found the senior forward who drove through a free lane to the net and fired a shot into the top right corner. Six minutes later it was White again who put one past Liner in goal. Zoe Fishman (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real Charter) fed White the ball from the left side and White's shot ricocheted off Liner's hand into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.
Wofford fired off shot after shot in the final five minutes of regulation but Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) made save after save to secure the win. She tallied eight saves in the win, all in the final 45 minutes. UNCG edged Wofford 17-15 in shots and 5-3 in corner kicks but committed 13 fouls to the Terriers two.
Wofford falls to 2-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in SoCon action as the Spartans improve to 21-0-3 all-time against the Terriers.
UNCG will travel to Chattanooga Friday night for the third game of its four-game road stretch in SoCon action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
