Things started out positively for UNCG in the first set as a big block in the middle gave the Spartans a 5-4 advantage. However, a couple of attacking errors helped the Bucs to a 10-7 lead. ETSU was able to keep UNCG at an arm's length until late in the frame when a ball handling error by the Buc setter pulled the Spartans within 19-18. The home team scored the next three points to establish a 22-18 cushion and held off a late UNCG charge to capture the set by four points.

Errors hurt the Blue and Gold in set one as UNCG committed eight miscues to hit just .167. ETSU limited its errors and fired at a .355 clip. The Bucs also picked up 15 digs as compared to 13 for the Spartans while the squads each recorded one total block.

ETSU jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the second stanza as UNCG was forced to call an early timeout. The Spartans could not find a rhythm however and had to use its last timeout of the set trailing 14-8. The Bucs rode their momentum the rest of way to win the frame and take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

UNCG hit .000 in the set with just five kills while ETSU tallied 16 kills and hit .300. The Bucs also held a slight advantage with 19 digs to the Spartans' 18.

The Blue and Gold rung up a 9-7 lead to start the third stanza and used some tough serving to stretch the advantage to 17-11. However, ETSU dug down and knotted the score at 17 before eventually winning the set and clinching the sweep.

UNCG returns home Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Spartans will face Western Carolina.
