Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team opened its season with a 0-0 stalemate against Triad foe High Point in front of a crowd of 915 fans at the UNCG Soccer Stadium Friday night. Goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) made a game-best seven saves while senior Diarra Simmons (Toronto, Ontario/Dayton) took four shots, two on goal, for the Spartans for a team high.
The first half was evenly played with High Point edging UNCG 10-6 in shots while the Spartans took two corner kicks and held the Panthers to zero. Buehler made the bulk of her saves in the opening frame but a key stop in the second half is what sent the game to overtime.
UNCG took three corners in the two over time periods and were stopped on three shots during that span. Alex Hank, the Panthers GK made five saves in a complete game shutout.
The Spartans remain unbeaten against High Point at home and are now 5-1-1 all-time against the Panthers.
The Blue & Gold is back in action Sunday, August 21, against Tennessee Tech. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
