Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer improved to 2-0-1 with a 1-0 win over Elon Friday night. Melanie Spensiero (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) tallied her first goal of the 48th minute to edge the Phoenix on the road.
Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) made a single save in the first half stalemate while Elon slightly outshot UNCG 7-5 in the opening 45 minutes.
Spensiero's goal in the 48th minute was all it took for UNCG to take the win. She connected to the left side from a pass by Simmons on the right for the lone goal of the game.
Beuhler made three saves in the win, en route to her third shutout of the season. Caylin Prillaman (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Christian Academy) led the Blue & Gold with four shots while Spensiero and Dena Cisic (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) both added two.
The Spartans improve to lead the all-time series 18-1-2 and remain undefeated on the road in the series.
UNCG returns home to face Wake Forest Sunday, August 28, at 4 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. Fans can watch live on the SoCon Digital Network.
