Box Score West Point, N.Y. – The UNCG women's soccer team improved to 3-1-1 Friday night with a 3-1 win over Army West Point in the opening game of the Army West Point Fall Classic. Three different Spartans scored in the win including freshman Cienna Rideout (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) logged her first career goal.
UNCG took an early lead when Rideout scored five minutes into the match when she dribbled down the left side and shot to her opposite side for the 1-0 lead. Army responded in the 11th minute on a Clare Shea header but it didn't take long before the Spartans regained the lead. Melanie Spensiero (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) scored her second goal of the season at the 19-minute mark.
The Spartans held a 2-1 advantage through the first half despite being outshot 14-9. UNCG led 5-2 in corner kicks. Chloe Buehler made all nine saves in the first half of the match.
Caylin Prillaman (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Christian Academy) added an insurance goal for UNCG in the 62nd minute for her team-leading third goal of the season. The Spartans outshot Army 11-2 in the second half while Beuhler didn't face a shot on goal the entire second frame.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 all-time against the Black Knights since first meeting in 2014.
