Box Score West Point, N.Y. – The UNCG women's soccer team (3-2-1) wrapped up play at the Army West Point Fall Classic with a 5-2 loss against Hofstra (4-1-1) Sunday afternoon. The Spartans split the weekend's pair of games previously beating Army West Point 3-1 Friday night.
Hofstra cashed in early in the match when Jill Mulholland chipped one just past UNCG's goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) in the sixth minute. Kristin Desmond doubled the lead for the Pride seven minutes later for a 2-0 Hofstra lead.
In the 31st minute Desmond scored her second goal of the match for a 3-0 Hofstra lead but Diarra Simmons (Toronto, Ontario/Dayton) answered back for UNCG less than a minute later to give the Spartans their first tally of the match. Jess Logue (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) was credited with her first collegiate assist on the goal.
Noriana Radwan added a goal with 30 seconds remaining to give the Pride a 3-1 lead at halftime. UNCG was outshot 13-7 in the first half and Hofstra held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Buehler made both of her saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
Melanie Spensiero (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) bodied past a defender in three minutes into the second half cutting Hofstra's lead to two goals. Mulholland scored her second goal of the outing in the 61st minute.
Jamie Phelps (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll) made her first appearance in goal this season playing the final 21 minutes for the Spartans. She faced no shots during her time between the pipes.
Hofstra now leads the all-time series 2-0 and posted a 1-0-1 record during the Army West Point Fall Classic.
