GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team returns home this week to host The Citadel on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action. They then travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina, to face Western Carolina on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

SERIES VS. THE CITADEL
UNCG is leading the all-time series 24-0-1. During the 2024 season, the Spartans and Bulldogs faced off twice, the first was a 0-0 draw in Charleston, South Carolina, during the regular season. The second game was the first round of the SoCon Tournament, where UNCG won 3-0.
SERIES VS. WESTERN CAROLINA
UNCG is leading the all-time series 25-6-4. The Catamounts have won the last two contests with scores of 2-0 in 2024 and 4-0 in 2023. UNCG last won in 2022 during the SoCon Tournament, 2-1, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG and Mercer battled through a tough 1-0 game, where the Bears came out on top.
Emma Malone made five saves in net for the Spartans. Mercer had the edge in shots, 15-10, and corner kicks were even at five apiece.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- So far this season, Rina Ogimoto paces the team with 12 points (5G, 2A).
- Taylor Mentzer and Ava Kiss are second on the team with two goals and one assist for five points.
- Ryen Ortiz has three points this season (1G, 1A).
- Malone was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7 for her efforts to give UNCG two shutouts with a 1-0 win over Furman and a 0-0 tie to Wofford.
- UNCG has four shutouts on the season.
- Opponents lead the Spartans in corner kicks, 57-56, while UNCG has the edge in saves, 54-46.
- The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in SoCon.
- The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points.
- Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
SCOUTING THE CITADEL
- The Citadel was picked to finish ninth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The Bulldogs concluded the 2024 season 4-11-3 overall and 0-8-1 in SoCon play.
- The Citadel holds the edge in saves, 60-50, and corner kicks, 54-38, over its opponents.
- Alice Williamson leads the team with eight points (4G).
- Elisa Fuentes is second with seven points (3G, 1A).
- Four different goalkeepers have seen time in net for the Bulldogs.
- Zoe Santos has seen the most time between the posts, starting in six games and playing in nine. She has given up 11 goals with a 1.82 goals against average and 39 saves.
SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA
- Western Carolina was voted to win the 2025 SoCon Championship in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, taking nine of the 10 first-place votes.
- Isabella DeMarco, Milla Syska, Ava Robitalle, Mary Mueth, Abbie Wise and Leanne Trudel were named to the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
- The Catamounts concluded the 2024 season 11-5-3 overall and 5-2-2 in SoCon play.
- Western Carolina will travel to ETSU before hosting UNCG.
- The Catamounts are on a three-game win streak with an 8-4-3 overall record and a 4-1-1 SoCon mark.
- They are second in the SoCon standings with 13 points, just one point away from Samford.
- As a team, they have seven shutouts.
- DeMarco is first on the team and fourth in the conference with 20 points (6G, 4A).
- Syska leads the team and conference with six assists. She also has two goals for 10 total points.
- In net, Trudel has started and played in all 15 games for the Catamounts. She has given up 15 goals for 1.00 goals against average and 64 saves.
- Nationally, Western Carolina is ranked 13th in shots per game (17.80), 20th in shots on goal per game (7.93), 31st in corner kicks per game (6.40), 45th in total goals (29), 47th in total points (84) and 50th in goal differential (14).
